Middlesex County Overview
Courts Handling Middlesex County DUI Records
Middlesex County OUI cases move through two levels of court. District courts handle first and second offense OUI charges. Felony OUI cases, including third-offense and above, go to Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn. Every court creates its own case file. That file holds the charging documents, any plea or trial records, and the final disposition. DUI records from each of these courts are searchable online or in person.
The county has dual seats: Cambridge and Lowell. Both cities have active district courts that see a high volume of OUI filings. Cambridge District Court covers the Harvard and MIT area, where college-zone enforcement is common. Lowell District Court covers the northern part of the county. Framingham District Court serves the Route 9 and Mass Pike (I-90) corridor, where the State Police maintain a busy barracks. Woburn District Court and Woburn Superior Court share the same general area but handle different charge levels.
The Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn handles all felony OUI cases from the county. This is the court of record for any OUI charge that rises to a felony under MGL c.90 § 24. Third offense OUI and higher are prosecuted here.

Middlesex court records cover all district and superior court OUI cases across the county, giving you a single reference point before you contact individual clerks.
How to Search Middlesex County OUI Records
The free starting point for any Middlesex County DUI records search is MassCourts. This is the state's official public docket system. You can search by name, case number, ticket number, or case type. The system pulls results from all district and superior courts in the county, so one search can show you cases from Lowell, Cambridge, Framingham, Woburn, and the other district courts at once.
The state also publishes a plain-language guide on how to search court dockets that walks through the MassCourts search steps. That page explains what each field means and how to narrow results by court division or date range. It is worth reading before your first search.
For in-person access, go to the clerk's office at the courthouse that handled the case. Bring a photo ID. Clerks can look up cases by name or case number and make copies on the spot. In-person visits give you access to the full physical file, which may have documents that do not appear in the online docket. Courts are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Note: Some older Middlesex County OUI records may not appear in the online system. For cases from before the mid-2000s, contact the clerk at the specific courthouse directly.
You can also send a written request by mail. Include the case number, the names of the parties, and a list of the specific documents you need. Attach a self-addressed stamped envelope and a check or money order for the copy fees. Mail requests take longer but work well when you know the exact case details.
The Middlesex County courts directory lists each courthouse with contact details, so you can confirm the right location before you visit or write.
This directory is a useful reference when you are not sure which district court served the town where the arrest occurred.
Middlesex County OUI Enforcement and Charges
Middlesex County sees significant OUI activity given its size and road network. The county contains several of the state's busiest highways. I-93, I-95/Route 128, Route 2, and Route 3 all run through the county. The Mass Pike (I-90) passes through the southern portion near Framingham. State Police patrol all of these corridors, and local police in Cambridge, Lowell, and other cities also make OUI arrests.
The Framingham State Police barracks is a key enforcement hub. Troopers from that barracks work Route 9 and the Mass Pike. Both roads see a lot of traffic and a steady number of OUI stops. The Cambridge area also sees active enforcement tied to the college population, particularly on weekends and during the academic year.
Under MGL c.90 § 24, a first-offense OUI in Massachusetts carries a fine of $500 to $5,000, up to 2.5 years in jail, and a one-year license suspension. Many first-time defendants in Middlesex County courts resolve their case under MGL c.90 § 24D, which allows for a probationary outcome, a 45- to 90-day suspension, and an alcohol education program. The 24D disposition keeps the offense out of the standard conviction record in certain contexts, though the court file remains public.
Second offense OUI brings fines of $600 to $10,000, 30 days to 2.5 years, and a two-year suspension. Third offense is a felony: $1,000 to $15,000, 180 days to five years, and an eight-year suspension. These cases land in Middlesex Superior Court. Implied consent refusal on a first offense adds a 180-day suspension on top of any court-ordered suspension.
Requesting Middlesex County DUI Record Copies
Copy fees are set by the state and apply at every courthouse in Middlesex County. Non-certified copies cost $0.05 per page. Certified copies are $2.50 per page. A certificate of orders costs $20. Most people need a certified copy when they are dealing with a license reinstatement, an immigration matter, or a legal proceeding that requires proof of the case outcome.
To get copies in person, go to the clerk's office at the courthouse that handled your case. Give them the case number or the defendant's name and approximate date of the charge. The clerk will locate the file and make copies while you wait, or ask you to return. Payment is by check or money order at most locations; call ahead to confirm whether cash or card is accepted.
For mail requests, write to the clerk at the specific courthouse. Your letter should include the case number, the names of the parties, the documents you want, a self-addressed stamped envelope, and a check or money order for the estimated copy cost. If you do not know the exact fee in advance, include a check for a reasonable amount and the clerk will refund any overpayment or contact you for the difference.
Certified Copies: Only the court clerk can issue certified copies of OUI records. Requests sent to police departments or the Registry of Motor Vehicles will not produce certified court documents.
Cambridge District Court OUI Cases
The Cambridge District Court handles OUI and DUI cases from Cambridge, Somerville, and Malden. Despite its name, the court is physically located in Medford at 4040 Mystic Valley Pkwy.
Cambridge District Court OUI records are part of the MassCourts system and can be searched online or requested in person at the Medford location. Cases from Harvard Square, Central Square, and the Route 1 corridor in Somerville all run through this court.
Driving Records and CORI for Middlesex County OUI
Two separate record systems track OUI outcomes in Massachusetts: the court file and the driving record. The court file lives with the clerk at the courthouse. The driving record lives with the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV). After an OUI conviction or admission in Middlesex County, the RMV suspends the license and adds the event to the driving record. These are different records and you need to request them separately.
You can request a driving record from the RMV. An unattested record costs $8. An attested (certified) record is $20. The driving record shows suspensions, reinstatements, and any OUI-related actions. It does not show the full court case details. If you need license reinstatement after an OUI suspension, the process is outlined at mass.gov.
Criminal Offender Record Information, known as CORI, is a separate system run by the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services. A CORI check costs $25 and shows criminal court activity statewide, including Middlesex County OUI charges. You can request CORI through DCJIS. Note that a 24D disposition may be sealed immediately upon completion. Standard misdemeanor OUI convictions become eligible for sealing after five years; felony OUI after ten years. Sealed records do not show up in CORI results but remain in the court file.
For a broad overview of Massachusetts OUI law, the state publishes a plain-language resource at mass.gov that covers penalties, license consequences, and the court process.
